The 2018 Farm Bill and the status of Industrial Hemp?

Image
The following article is a good summation and overview of the recently passed 2018 U.S. Farm Bill, that addressed the legality of industrial hemp (or C B D). It is from the CPA firm Bridge West. Bridge West focuses solely on the cannabis industry and provides accounting and tax services to companies in the cannabis space. We thank them for this overview and fully attribute the content to them. The notes throughout and at the end of this overview summary are from us, Smart Hemp. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * President Trump recently signed the 2018 Farm Bill into law. This is not an ordinary farm bill, as the most interesting changes involve the cannabis plant and cannabis is not usually part of the discussion concerning farm subsidies, nutritional assistance, and crop insurance. However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s strong support for and guidance on hemp has sparked much discussion and interest. Hemp is defined in the legislation as the cannabis plant with only one fac...

Differences between hemp for pets and “any hemp”?

Image
In the span of just a few years, people’s awareness of the benefits of “industrial hemp” products (overall), is up significantly — and interest in hemp for pets has been increasing rapidly . When we talk to people and monitor social media, we know confusion exists about hemp products for pets. For instance: It’s not uncommon for people to tell pet owners ‘all hemp products are the same’ so go ahead and use it. (And not being able to tell them how to dose it) Some people buy a hemp product at a local market and show an uploaded image asking: “is this okay for my pet?” because it isn’t labeled for pets. Others upload an image of the label which clearly shows it’s a poor choice for pets. The label may make a medical claim, or call it a “food supplement” (which is against FDA regs) or shows the first ingredient as “pressed hemp seed oil” or some other ingredient that’s not good for a pet. (False claims, FDA labeling violations, or ingredients that don’t identify the type of hemp a pr...

Dry Skin Season is Here

Image
It seems to come quickly — but dry skin season is here. Dry indoor air can cause your pet to scratch, lick and generally try to relieve their symptoms. In one case, a Boxer’s owner said “He’s back to licking between his toes so much they’re turning raw and red. I need to start him on some balm or serum again”. And so he did. Remember — if any itchy, red, irritated spot looks to get infected, see your Veterinarian. If you’re in a cold weather state where salt and sand is used on driveways, sidewalks and roads, be sure to keep your pet’s paws clean. But they can dry and crack too. Be sure to use the right topical for them — such as our balm. The balms are a full spectrum hemp oil and are what we might call “hearty” — massage the balm in up to 4x a day. Full spectrum hemp oil balms are great for itching, dryness, etc. and customers report they see healing in just a few days.

Pets and Coronavirus

Image
These are trying times for people. Everyone’s thinking how to keep their families safe from a new virus. Businesses face challenges never anticipated. Hopefully, job losses are temporary. BUT WHAT ABOUT PETS? People ask: “can my dog or my cat contract Coronavirus?” “If they contract it, can they spread it to people?” “If they get it, can it morph into something more dangerous?” All great questions. The CDC has addressed COVID-19 and animals. While it seems very unlikely pets can contract it, we recommend you visit their site regularly in case they make revisions. Here is the link to their site.  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavi…/2019-ncov/prepare/animals.html As per the CDC: “In the United States, there is no evidence to suggest that any animals, including pets, livestock, or wildlife, might be a source of COVID-19 infection at this time.” RISKS TO PETS “CDC has not received any reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19. Further studies are needed to understan...
